So That's How You Turn Rice Into Gold...
I've been scratching my head for years at the success of Nolita rice pudding shop "Rice to Riches." Soon after it opened, I predicted a less-than-six-month opening-to-auction cycle. It shouldn't have worked. C'mon... rice pudding? An entire shop built around rice pudding? But this one-trick pony proved me wrong, riding strong for two years.
I was impressed at their ability to keep the place populated until news came out last week reporting owner Peter Moceo was serving up a $21 million sports gambling operation alongside all those risottos. It's sad, really. I always hope to have my pessimism proven wrong.
Meanwhile, it's fodder for comics and cynics, we can all enjoy a heapin' helpin' of Curbed's Rice To Riches Conspiracy Theories.

Hey there...
I've just recently become interested in food/cooking, and so I've been checking out some food blogs, including yours. I've had fun, but it's kind of sad reading blogs by people in New York, California, Asia, and Europe and feeling lonely in wonderful Minneapolis.
I noticed that you linked to Dara Moskowitz and Cafe Latte, but your profile says you live in NY. Are you somehow linked to Minneapolis?

Greetings to you in wonderful Minneapolis!
Ah! Minneapolis! I just returned from that fine city two days ago... I was actually a resident until three years ago when I relocated here in Brooklyn. The fam and friends are all Minneapolitan, so I fly back three or four times during the year.
Last weekend featured food stops at Nye's for pierogies and My Le Hoa in Little Canada for dim sum, that Perkins on 494 and France (just coffee), Panera Bread near Southdale and the French Meadow. One of these days I plan to get around to writing a review of my favorite Twin Cities breakfast joints...
No doubt you missed my week of "Why I Love The State Fair" posts last August...
But there must be Minneapolis food bloggers, right? And there's always the Chowhound Midwest Message Board. (http://www.chowhound.com/midwest/boards/midwest/midwest.html) Also keep in mind that you have "The Splendid Table" on MPR every Saturday... we don't have such things out here.
