The Humble Pie.
Pizza. It's ubiquitous, reliable, dependable. It's earned a place beside your favorite pair of jeans, your oldest friend, those favorite CDs you upgraded from cassettes and now need to replace again.
But don't let familiarity breed contempt. I suspect one good pizza could change the world.
Consider:
1. Pizza as host.
From soy-cheese and spinach to double pepperoni, corner slice to creme fraiche-and-caviar, pizza accommodates everyone. Mention your meeting features pizza and attendance doubles. Pony up a pie and beers for the friends that just helped you haul that futon, your entire wardrobe and all twelve boxes of books up three flights of stairs, and you're greeted with heartfelt smiles and the possibility of getting them to do it all again next year.
2. Pizza as mediator.
Sausage? Mushrooms? Onions? Pineapple? Spinach? Feta? For the love of god... anchovies? The options are presented. The players take their corners. The battle ensues. The smoke clears, the scores are tallied, and the judges have decided. And in the end? Everyone wins. Half with this and half with that. Or two little pies. Or four. Full bellies. Big grins. World peace.
3. Pizza as constant companion.
Who's there for you at four o' clock in the morning when the swanky joints don't want to see your ugly mug? Who's waiting the next morning in the refrigerator, on the countertop, still in the box, your pick-me-up, your buttercup? Who makes both the kids and grandpa cheer? Who's got your back when the cash is low and the tummy rumble is loud? Who loves ya, baby? I think you know...
This post inspired by Slice. A blog that's devoted, passionate, belligerent in the name of pizza.

Hear, hear! I couldn't have said it much better myself. (Although soy cheese is really pushing it.) --Adam
Don't be so dogmatic! Must your passion for pizza translate to intolerance?
To each his own... pie, that is. Which, in truth, means there's more regular cheese slices for you, so everyone's happy-go-lucky.
